Who We Are and Why We Do This
Ever wonder what you would do if you had
a mid-life crisis? Buy a fast car, a
boat maybe a world tour. Bet you never
would have thought of an aging
Adirondack resort! But to each their
own. Tom is a retired school teacher of
23 years and his wife, Mary Lou, a
retired school principal of 20 years.
Both knew little when they embarked on
this adventure. They brought with them
two sons T.D. and Scott and a desire to
succeed in the face of adversity.
Together they set out to rebuild and
resurrect a struggling entity.
Twin Pines on Trout Lake has been in
constant operation as a resort since
1918. Originally, as a "informal adult
resort" Twin Pines boasted a full meal
plan provided by European chefs, a 75
person staff and numerous guest rooms.
In or about 1970, the calling for
informal adult resorts was waning and
the original owners decided to redirect
the business to hotel / motel type
accommodations. Most of the single units
were reorganized into multi bedroom
dwellings with kitchens. In 1986 the McGurl family purchased Twin Pines and
have not looked back yet. Constant
renovation and building has gone on in
the last 20 years.
Currently, Tom and Mary
Lou live on
the property as well as T.D. (a
government teacher in the local high
school) Karen, his wife and children
Liam and Meghan. Although Scott visits,
he and his wife Maggie and their
children Andrew and Sarah live in
Northeastern Pennsylvania. Living and
working in the same location has
afforded the McGurl's the opportunity to
constantly strive to ensure that your
needs are met and you thoroughly enjoy
your stay.
We at Twin Pines thank our guests for
providing us with the opportunity to be
a part of your fond memories. Whether
it is children at the beach, smores at
the campfire, or sailing, we are ever grateful
to be part of your vacation, for your
business and loyalty over the years.
If you have not stayed with us
before, try a summer at Twin Pines on
Trout Lake. Step into quiet summers
gone by and allow family memories which
will last a lifetime to flourish.
